Before You Apply

Step 1: Research

Before you select a program, it’s important to understand your options in relation to program type, funding, curriculum, location, and term. Click on “Studying Abroad”, “Domestic Study Away” and “FAQs” on the left- hand menu to get a better understanding of what is available.  Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see pictures and experiences from your classmates abroad and get updates on important dates.

Step 2: Get Advice

  • Talk to your academic advisor(s) to help figure out where off-campus study fits into your academic plan. This step is critical to figuring out when is the best time for you to participate in an off-campus study program.

  • Talk to your athletic coach (if applicable) to determine the best time to go abroad based on your athletic schedule.

  • Talk to your peers that have studied off-campus to hear about their experiences.

  • Talk to CGE advisors to help find a program that fits your goals and needs.

Step 3: See What’s Out There

You can find study abroad programs by location through the interactive world map or search by categories using the Advanced Search function. By using the Advanced Search function, You have the choice of searching programs by the Program Type, Country, City, Provider, Term, Major, Subject, or by Keyword. You can search by one of the search criteria or all; however for the best results we suggest limiting your criteria.

Not seeing what you’re looking for? Use GoAbroad.com or google to do a quick program search to see if there are other programs that better fit your needs. Programs that are not approved affiliate programs need to be approved by CGE

Step 4: Make sure it is Financially Feasible

Compare program costs and develop a budget to figure out how much it will cost for you to go abroad. Talk to the financial aid office to see how much aid you are eligible for. You will want to make sure that you have a current FAFSA completed. There are also scholarships and grants available! Read more information on the page Fund Your Program.

Step 5: Apply

So you’ve found the right program for you! You will want to apply for the program you are interested. More information on how to do this is located on the “How to Apply” page. Touch base with CGE staff to make sure you understand the application process correctly.
