Uganda

Description

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa, bordered by Kenya to the east, Sudan to the north, the Congo to the west, Rwanda to the southwest, and Tanzania to the south. Uganda's name is derived from the Buganda kingdom, which encompasses the southern portion of the country. In the southern part of the country, Lake Victoria covers a large part of the land. Other lakes include, Lake Albert, Lake Kyoga, and Lake Edward. The country is located on the East African plateau, making the land 2,950 feet above sea level. One of the world's longest river, White Nile, is located in Uganda and is very important being one of the two main tributaries of the Nile. The climate is mostly tropical but varies between different parts of the country.
 
The President of Uganda, is both head of state and head of government. The prime minister is appointed by the president and aids him in tasks. The parliament is formed by the National Assembly, consisting of 303 members. Eighty-six of these members are nominated by interest groups such as women and the army, while the remaining members are elected during general elections. Uganda is a very diverse culture due to the abundant number of ethnic communities.
 
English has become the official language, however there are forty different languages spoken regularly in the country. Swahili has been approved as the country's second official language, widely used in the police and military forces. Christians make up 66% of the population, while Muslims only represent 16% of the population. Regarding sports, Rugby and Cricket have rapidly grown and become very popular sports.
