What is Included: The estimated trip fee is $2000, and it includes international airfare, ground transportation in Guatemala, meals in Guatemala, housing in shared hotel accommodations, local translators and guides, in-country support services. international insurance coverage for medical emergencies, accidents, evacuation and repatriation.

Trip fee may change based on fluctuating costs of airfare and currency exchange rates.
What is not Included: Passport fees, visa application fees (if applicable), extra luggage fees (if exceeding airline allowance), trip insurance, meals during travel to-and-from study abroad destinations, spending money of personal nature such as, but not limited, to phone service, laundry, souvenirs, bank transaction fees, etc.).
Program Description

Students enrolled in the Doctoral of Physical Therapy program will have an opportunity to engage in an international and collaborative service trip to Guatemala. The weeklong trip is scheduled for March 9-16, 2019. The DPT team will be led by Dr. Gary Austin.

OBJECTIVES:
Participate in inter-disciplinary DPT Service Experience in Guatemala with nurses, nurse practitioners, nursing students, midwifes, and, physicians.

Provide physical therapy services in Antigua and surrounding local villages and communities.

GOALS:
Facilitate a comparative exposure to various health care delivery models
Enhance cultural competence
Provide exposure to expansion of professional roles
Engage in interdisciplinary work in an intercultural context
Make a direct, immediate and lasting contribution to the local community
Contribute within and across the community of knowledge
